Photography Process 20/8

When I first started out photography I made two artboards. both from different areas. The first was feminism/Social conscience and the other was Spiritual/Cultural development. The problem with my work is I picked these photos because I liked them and thought they were interesting and not because I had any intention of recreating them. The only thing I wanted to implement into my work would be the blur and overlapping of photos which is seen in the Spiritual/Cultural development board.

This is the more recent artboard I've made that more relates to how I want to take my photographs.

Jackie Ranken's photography was interesting to me because it looks as though there is a lot of blur/motion blur which is kind of a big thing I want to do in my work. I feel I can link back to her as an artist model and hopefully try to make it so she is visible included in my photography.

William Eggleston's work is there for the reason I was thinking of photographing buildings and structures so to link back to him would be a good idea. I need to learn to make it so everything in the photograph is intentionally and play around more with lights and the time of day and how that can contribute/improve my photography

I like David Hockney's work (Top Left) as the style he has looks interesting and something I might enjoy trying to implement into my work.

This is another image of Davids where the layering is seen very clearly. the layering style he uses is something I'm going to try to recreate in my next photoshoot. I do however have a problem where things need to be neat so to try and mimic this style of photography might be a challenge for me but I look forward to trying it out.

Photography Progress

Term 3

27/7

Last week I had suddenly decided that I wanted to do photography, again. I started off as a photographer in Term 1 and all though I was enjoying it I was unsure whether I was going to be able to complete an artboard due to personal reasons. I ended up changing to paint after a few weeks of struggling to produce any physical work and a few weeks later changed to design for the same reasons. After the COVID-19 lockdown, I ended up dropping the physical aspect of art and instead started doing art history standards that I also managed to do little to no work in. Now I'm back where I started and I hope to produce work that is up to level 2 merit standard.

Mood board, Theme, Subject matter

17.02.20

My Visual Arts course this year will be focused on photography. For level 1 I did painting and despite how messy/unorganised I was I still managed to enjoy it hence why I am taking level 2 art. I've decided on doing photography instead of painting this time for the sole purpose of trying something new and because I feel somewhat inspired by some of the works I looked at by photographers. Originally we were supposed to make one mood board but I tend to be difficult when it comes to selecting one specific topic or area in something so I made two from the category's I liked the most.

The first category and the one I liked the most was 'Spiritual/Cultural development'. If i'm honest i'm at a loss for words when I look at this. I can't explain why I like it aside from the fact that it feels right or natural to me. I am very drawn to the eerie and uneasy feeling that it gives off which is the kind of impression I want my works to give off. My favourite photographer on here is Man Ray. I personally think his work is phenomenal and I enjoy his piece 'Anatomies' to the point I could admire it for a few minutes or so.

The second category was 'Feminism/Social conscience'. Last year I had looked at Shepard Faireys work and found it somewhat fascinating so as I dived deeper into the category he was associated with I found that I had taken a strong liking to works by Duane Michals and Jim Goldberg. My favourite peice on here would have to be 'The Illuminated Man' by Duane Michals. I like the use of editing and the reds as it really stands out and gives off a strong effect.
