Mood board, Theme, Subject matter

17.02.20

My Visual Arts course this year will be focused on photography. For level 1 I did painting and despite how messy/unorganised I was I still managed to enjoy it hence why I am taking level 2 art. I've decided on doing photography instead of painting this time for the sole purpose of trying something new and because I feel somewhat inspired by some of the works I looked at by photographers. Originally we were supposed to make one mood board but I tend to be difficult when it comes to selecting one specific topic or area in something so I made two from the category's I liked the most.

The first category and the one I liked the most was 'Spiritual/Cultural development'. If i'm honest i'm at a loss for words when I look at this. I can't explain why I like it aside from the fact that it feels right or natural to me. I am very drawn to the eerie and uneasy feeling that it gives off which is the kind of impression I want my works to give off. My favourite photographer on here is Man Ray. I personally think his work is phenomenal and I enjoy his piece 'Anatomies' to the point I could admire it for a few minutes or so.

The second category was 'Feminism/Social conscience'. Last year I had looked at Shepard Faireys work and found it somewhat fascinating so as I dived deeper into the category he was associated with I found that I had taken a strong liking to works by Duane Michals and Jim Goldberg. My favourite peice on here would have to be 'The Illuminated Man' by Duane Michals. I like the use of editing and the reds as it really stands out and gives off a strong effect.
